About Lindsey Teaches Things

Hi! I'm glad you're here!

I’m Lindsey Howell, a former homeschool student turned lifelong learner, teacher, and creator of LindseyTeachesThings.com. I studied political science at William Jewell College and earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. That background shapes the way I approach teaching, following questions, connecting ideas, and helping students engage more deeply with what they’re learning.
I was raised learning at home and I know firsthand the gift (and challenge) of following curiosity wherever it leads. That experience shaped everything I do now, helping homeschool families make space for deep, meaningful exploration without losing structure or direction.

My goal is simple: help homeschool families take what they’re already teaching and enrich it with custom micro-lessons tailored to their child’s specific interests. Whether it’s ancient history, theology, literature rabbit trails, or something wonderfully niche, I help turn curiosity into a fun, engaging lesson inside an existing curriculum.
I believe kids learn best when they’re allowed to wonder freely and given the tools to go deeper. This space is built to support that, one focused, engaging lesson at a time.

Why I Do This

My mission is to help you turn curiosity into something productive, not distracting. In homeschooling, rabbit trails aren’t the problem. They’re often where the deepest learning happens. The challenge is knowing how to follow those interests without feeling like you’re getting off track or falling behind.

That’s where I come in.

I help you take those sparks of curiosity and shape them into focused, meaningful micro-lessons that fit within your existing curriculum. So your child gets to explore what excites them, and you get to stay confident, organized, and on track.

Home education should feel rich and engaging not frustrating or scattered, and the best learning often starts with a simple, “But what about…?”

How Curiosity Stays On Track

I don’t replace your curriculum, I build into it.

When your child latches onto something specific (a person, a question, a tiny detail you didn’t plan to cover), I take that interest and turn it into a focused micro-lesson that fits right into what you’re already doing.

That means:

  • no scrambling to research for hours
  • no guilt about “getting off schedule”
  • no wasted curiosity

Instead, you get:

  • targeted, meaningful lessons
  • deeper understanding of the subject you’re already teaching
  • a child who feels seen in how they learn

It’s not about doing more. It’s about making what you’re already doing work better. This is how we create lifelong learners who keep asking questions and engaging deeply, long after formal education ends.

Micro Lessons or Full Courses

Most families begin with micro-lessons. For students who want to go deeper, I can also work with you to build a series of lessons or even a full course around a specific topic.

Custom Micro Lessons

$45 per micro-lesson

Each custom micro-lesson is designed around your student’s specific interests and connects directly to your existing homeschool curriculum.

A typical micro-lesson includes:

  • a 10–15 minute audio lesson
  • one-page guided notes
  • 2–3 discussion questions

Every lesson is fully tailored to your student’s curiosity, learning style, and current studies—so learning feels connected, not fragmented.

Going Deeper

For students who want to explore a topic further, I also offer custom lesson series or full curriculum design. These are built around the depth and breadth of your child’s interests and your educational goals.

Pricing for series and full curriculum development is determined based on scope and will be discussed after your initial request.

Once I review your request, I’ll follow up with a recommended plan tailored to your student.

Frequently Asked Questions

I started Lindsey Teaches Things because I believe curiosity is one of the most important parts of learning. Kids remember the subjects that spark wonder, and I love helping families create educational experiences that feel rich, meaningful, and memorable.

A micro lesson is a customized learning experience designed to work alongside your child’s existing education. It takes a topic your student is already interested in and helps them explore it more deeply through lessons, projects, activities, writing, discussion questions, and other personalized tools.

Traditional tutoring usually focuses on helping a student catch up or improve performance in a subject. Lindsey Teaches Things is more focused on enrichment, curiosity, and individualized learning. My goal is to help students explore ideas deeply, make connections, and enjoy learning in a meaningful way.

Not at all. That's part of the beauty of this approach! I specifically design lessons to work with what your family is already doing. These lessons can support homeschool curriculum, traditional school assignments, unit studies, or independent interests your child wants to explore further.

Most of my lessons are best suited for upper elementary through middle school students, but every child is different. If your student is curious, engaged, and excited to learn, we can usually create something that fits well.

Every lesson is different, but materials can include custom lesson plans, projects, writing prompts, discussion questions, activities, reading recommendations, grading support, tests, or family learning ideas.

That depends on your family’s goals. Some parents like to work through lessons together with their child, while others prefer more independent activities. My goal is to support parents and make learning feel more manageable, not to add stress.

You can reach out through the contact form on my website or social media pages. From there, we’ll talk about your student, their interests, your current curriculum, and what kind of support would be most helpful for your family.
